Thoughts About Cars

Driving can be a lot of fun when you know where you’re going. When you know exactly what route you have to take, and where to turn, and where to stop at the lights and whatnot, it means you can relax and focus on the road directly in front of you rather than think about if you’re going to get lost on a random road and have to spend an hour trying to find your way back.

While I do like to relax while driving, the last time I went on a long drive I had to end up calling into the local car service shop. Cambridge has a number of regular mechanic stores but I decided to call a local mechanic so that I wouldn’t have to pay for roadside assistance or a tow truck or anything like that. I was able to get my car to the side of the road and out of the way before it broke down altogether. I heard it making some strange noises, but the biggest indicator that something was wrong was when the air conditioning and the climate control stopped working. This is usually a precursor for a larger problem, so whenever I notice this I always drive extra carefully. I guess it paid off, since I was able to easily get to the side of the road before my car stopped working and wouldn’t let me drive anymore. Now, it doesn’t even seem to start.

I know that the mechanic will do a great job with my car AC repair. He’s well known for working to the best of his abilities. Sometimes I wish I understood how cars worked and could fix things myself. I know how to change a tyre, but that’s about the extent of my knowledge. There is so much more to learn, but I sort of feel like the information is hidden from most of the public. Maybe one day I’ll quit my job and enrol in mechanical school and learn how to become a mechanic.
