Hardware Store Secondary

Lorenzo tossed the night-vision binoculars into his car and practically leapt into the driver’s seat. He shoved the key in the ignition and turned, only for a horrible silence to follow. He turned the key again and again with no luck whatsoever, only then realising that the indoor light of the vehicle must have drained the battery. He’d only left it on for no more than ten minutes, but with the current battery models available in New Melbourne, ten minutes was more than enough.

Groaning, he threw his head back against the headrest. Iris was going to take the car and leave before he could apprehend her and ask the questions going through his head. If Redman had been forcibly taken by the Zircon Clan and sent back bound in rope, why had he known where his car was hidden?

With his car out of commission, it was going to be hard to chase down Iris and get the plumbing supplies close to Cheltenham he needed to pick up, but Lorenzo simply had to make it work. Something wasn’t right about Redman’s disappearance, and he was going to prove it.

Lorenzo got out of the car and drew all the strength he could from his tattoo of speed. Each tattoo inked onto his skin faded with use, and to catch the car and make it to the hardware store, he’d have to make this particular tattoo practically disappear. And even then, there was no guarantee he’d make it to the Cheltenham hardware store. But if chasing Iris and the car meant he had to walk all the way to the 24/7 hardware store near Bentleigh, so be it.

He could just feel it deep within his bones that Gideon was making a mistake by trusting this strange person. There was too much mystery surrounding them. Now was his chance to prove it, and he had to take it.

With plumbing and electrical supplies in the back of his mind, now a secondary mission, Lorenzo began his lightning-fast sprint, determined to catch the vehicle before it was too late.
